people have been asking...it's not too big of a deal but, well, I'm not too fond of plants.
I guess in every office at my work there is a little potted plant accompanied by a little card with information about it. I thought it was kinda weird, like maybe it was the last intern's plant, and wondered if I could give it away… hehe. Anyways I didn't really think much about it. When I got back and Sue, this older lady in my department came by and was like, Oh, did you see that you got a new plant?... I of course, hadn't noticed the difference. "Ooo, yeaaa." She goes on to explain that they hadn't been watching it while I was gone and that it had died. Apparently they usually have done a better job of taking care of the plants while people are gone so they got me a new plant. She explained how it was probably almost two weeks since any one looked at it (since that was about the time I've been gone) and that the leaves had all turned brown and died. In my head, I'm thinking, "dang, it's gotta have been a lot longer than that because I never did anything for it, and before that was Christmas break, and the other intern left even before that." So I just smile and nod. She also mentions that we have a plant day every once in a while…. (hmm. Maybe we bring them all together and trade or something. I know. It sounds exciting) She leaves. I read the information about the plant. I realize I can't let another plant die - i'd probably leave as the worst intern they've ever had. So now I will be making sure my syngomium podophyllum, otherwise known as an Arrowhead plant gets medium to bright light and will be turning it every couple of weeks so it grows normally. I may also cut back the stems that get "leggy" so that it will "remain full." And I may let the soil dry out slightly between waterings and make sure the plant is never sitting in water. So yes, I have a plant. And it is weird.
