Birthday shoes

Susie and I went up to Ogden this weekend for our Wesley and Dylan's birthday celebrations. Their birthdays are 12 days apart so we went up right in the middle. (Christy also had her baby Isabella Sunday, 6 days from each birthday haha.)

I told the boys we brought them presents but didn't want to give it to them right then. So I told them they had to find the present, and since I had left it in the car, didn't think I'd have a problem. I gave them one clue:

The present is in something that moves around a lot.

Wesley runs around the house and brings back a suitcase from the closet. We all laughed because, hey that suitcase on wheels does probably move around a lot. We start talking about something else and soon I realize Wesley and Dylan have found MY bag for the weekend and are looking for the present in there.

They pull out my shoes that were on top and ask, "Is this our present?" I think it's funny and start to play along. "Yep, that's it! You each get one shoe! You might have to hop around."

To my surprise they get really excited...Christy hears Wesley say "Oh, I'm going to hop in my shoe everyday."

The response was so unexpected that I had to pull out my camera. This is what follows.

Susie made a really good point with her question. I didn't think they'd be excited so how would I know to expect they'd get upset when I had to take the shoe away?

I told them that I'd have to take the shoes home with me, but they could play with them every time I came up to their house. Wesley left the room, and I didn't realize he was so upset.

Turns out he started crying, and we had to console him over his lost birthday shoe present.

Haha Karie that is too funny! How cute! I hope their real presents helped ease the pain of their lost shoes!

It was really funny...and no, the real presents did not live up to the expectations. I got them a couple fun books to read since we always do that. They liked them...just not as much as the shoes. :P

Luckily, I waited a while to give them the real presents so they seemed to have forgotten the shoes by then.

I would be mad if you took my birthday shoe. This is too cute.
