Facebook chat

Generally I don’t sign onto the little Facebook chat thing when I’m online. I guess I just still not completely sold on the idea—which is interesting because I’m usually one of the firsts to get excited about new things, e.g. Gmail, G-chat, or Facebook itself! Now this is just typically…occasionally I’ll sign on for a minute. That’s what I did last night. I selected to Go Online option and proceeded to work on designing a logo/seal thing for my sister’s company. Well, who would have guessed….someone starts talking to me. (Actually a couple did…but hey, not all conversations can spur a blog post)

I seriously laughed out loud when an old…friend, I guess…whom I haven’t seen pretty much since I was 16 started talking to me. And he just wanted to chat. It was totally hilarious because I have some interesting memories about this kid. He was really cool and a fun guy. I first met him while I was walking out of school at the end of the day with my carpool friend. We walked past him and he stopped talking to the person he was with and ran after us to catch us down the hall. I met him, he met me, and from then on I saw him everywhere! Even though I hadn’t ever remembered seeing him before. The next day I saw him at the mall; he kept showing up by my locker; we were in the same lunch; and, well, he even came to my dance studio once.

During our conversation, we were mostly catching up and seeing what the other has been up to. At one point—and I don’t remember what we were talking about—he slipped out this phrase, “We make a great team.” (P.S. Can you access Facebook chats? Hmm...) Immediately he was like…”uh, excuse that; that was completely corny, sorry.” And he apparently really was sorry as he continued, “Once my sister told me a guy she was dating said that to her; I insisted she immediately break up with him.” We joked a bit, I said I didn’t really mind corny…and then pops out a memory from one of our encounters.

It was a little fuzzy but…it was during a lunch period. I was with a couple guys in a booth (I don’t remember who the other one was) and we were discussing…the color of my eyes. They both insisted I had greenish brown eyes, or something like there were green flecks in there somehow. Now here comes the corny connection: I totally remember someone saying something similar to the ol “I need a map cuz I get lost in your eyes” statement. And I’m pretty sure this is all from the anti-corny guy. :)

Anyways it was pretty hilarious. At one point he asked, “Didn’t you dance?” And I responded, “Yea, didn’t you come to my dance studio once?” He asked if he did anything stupid but since neither of us remembered much, we decided it didn’t matter and he was probably pretty normal after all.

We apparently have lots in common these days. He’s a writer; I’m a writer. He used to work for a newspaper and now does mostly creative stuff. He almost finished a novel right after high school; I want to write a book someday. He wants to exchange writing stuff sometime. He’s traveled a lot; I’ve traveled to the places he hasn’t. He’s a musician and has a CD; I love finding new music…He’s sending me his stuff. Again, it was kinda an interesting convo. But it is definitely interesting how people can walk back into your life after who knows how long, even though it’s not likely I’ll talk to him again anytime soon.
